Runway the "Real" Way: Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti Spring 2012
Big Kinky Locks and Ombre Eyes at Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti
By Lauren Levinson
1. Turn some heads.

The camp from Alberta Ferretti demanded attention in wispy pastel frocks with big, dramatic hair and orange-pink, ombre eyeshadow.

2. Embrace the theatrics.

Didier Malige, the genius behind the 'do, describes the look as "angelic, pre-Raphaelite hair in a 1920s-inspired style." He parted the models' tresses, clipped pieces above their ears and wove locks in figure-eight stitches around Japanese U-shaped hairpins. Thirty minutes and tons of hairspray later, the pins were removed to reveal fuzzy, kinky curls. "It has been done before, but doing 30 girls is a challenge!" he says.

3. Give it a go.

Malige recommends trying it at home using pipe cleaners as pins since they are a bit bigger and easier to handle when doing the in-and-out weave. If that seems like too much effort, just set your hair in a bunch of tiny braids and sleep on them to get a similar crimp.

4. Layer your products.

Lucia Pieroni for MAC Cosmetics relied on two blushes—Holographic Orange and Fleur Power—to concoct a salmon color that rimmed the eyes and faded into the cheeks. "We're creating a water color effect, applying the powder with our softest brushes," explains MAC Cosmetics executive director Desnoyers. "The bristles absorb less [powder] and have a lighter deposit." Fusion Gold eye shadow was dusted on lips, temples and nose bridges to add some sheen.

5. Choose your hue.

"My number one recommendation would be to pick a color that makes you look healthy," say Desnoyers. "It could even be done with a very light bronzer. It's about the idea of freshness."
